Health insurance companies in Alabama offer several options for insurance to their clients. It’s all depending on their availability in a particular locality. Residents of the state of Alabama have certain health insurance options available to them. Health insurance plans available in Alabama include personal plans, plans available to families and those provided by employers.
ObamaCare which became available in 2010 is a popular insurance option available to residents of Alabama. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ensures affordable healthcare insurance with more coverage and flexibility. This is for families, individuals and employees of small businesses. It has provided residents of Alabama with healthcare insurance options of different categories. From healthcare insurance companies at competitive and subsidized rates. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act also comes with a wider range of coverage.
Residents of Alabama can qualify for subsidized health care insurance on the Health Insurance Marketplace. There are four ObamaCare plan types available on the Health Insurance Exchange. These four plan types are the silver plan, platinum plan, gold plan and bronze plan. The bronze plan is usually the lowest cost plan type with the highest out of pocket cost. The platinum plan is the most expensive plan type with the lowest out of pocket cost. There is a co-insurance discount for low to mid-income families that can lower the cost of a silver plan. This makes silver plans a great value for these families.
In Alabama, Blue Cross Blue Shield was the only insurance company offering plans on the marketplace until 2017. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama thus registered all of the residents of Alabama on the marketplace. In 2018, Bright Health became a second insurance provided for residents of Alabama giving them a wider range of choice. 2018 also came with an increase in the insurance rates and a decrease in the number of enrollees. It is noteworthy that the state is yet to expand Medicare under the ACA. Thus streamlining healthcare insurance options for residents of the state.
Short-term health insurance options are also available in Alabama. These short-term options include some of the most affordable health insurance options in Alabama. Residents of Alabama can get several low-cost health insurance quotes from a number of health insurance companies. Because of the affordability of short-term health insurance options, one could use them as a long-term form of health insurance. Especially with the new legislation that extended the duration of these plans to 12 months.
Before February 2018, the duration of short-term health insurance options was only 3 months. In early 2018 a new law was passed to extend the duration of short-term healthcare insurance plans to 364 days. This allows us to design plans that are up for renewal during the ACA (ObamaCare) open enrollment period. So if for some reason you are not eligible for renewal we simply will move you over to an ACA plan at that time.
With this extended duration, many residents are sure to see short-term health insurance plans as their preferred choice.
HealthShares (aka Christian Ministry Plans or Medishare plans), although not a health insurance plan, is also available to residents and citizens of Alabama. These plans allow persons that agree to the standards of a faith-based ministry to contribute to a common fund. So the medical bills of members are paid from this pool of money when it’s needed.
Members are expected to make at least a minimum responsibility amount (MRA) to have full access to the plan. A MRA is the same as a health insurance deductible. The members of most plans are also exempted from the ACA penalty for those without compliant health coverage. Currently the penalty is 2.5% of a families gross annual income.
However, under the Trump administration the penalty is not being enforced currently. Another advantage is that you will likely be paying lower medical bills that are negotiated on behalf by the group. Even if you have not met the member responsibility amount yet
With Group health insurance plans, employers can choose appropriate health insurance covers for their eligible employees and their families. Several health insurance companies offer affordable, flexible and affordable group health insurance quotes for group health insurance plans.
The form of coverage offered by Medicaid differs from state to state. The coverage available is dependent on the availability of funds since Medicaid is funded by both the federal and state government. Medicaid providers are licensed by the government, and they include laboratories, dental clinics, hospitals and nursing homes. The government sends the funds to the providers to cover the cost of attending to all persons that qualify for the coverage according to the stated requirements.
It is noteworthy that Alabama Medicaid has limited availability and may not be available at all times. Again, Alabama has not expanded Medicaid services as required under the Affordable Care Act.
